Each passenger is allowed a certain amount of baggage in the hold of the aircraft. This baggage must be of a specific weight and size. The weight, number and dimensions of hold baggage

The number, weight and dimensions of baggage items to be placed in the hold are not fixed. They vary according to the price of your ticket, your travel cabin and your Flying Blue status.

Dimensions of hold baggage

The standard size is 158 cm for each item of baggage that has to go into the hold. The length, height and width of the bag must therefore add up to this figure. However, some airlines allow baggage larger than 158 cm in total to go into the hold.

The number and weight of hold baggage items

When travelling in the Economy cabin, the number of baggage items is between 0 and 2, depending on the price of the ticket. Passengers in the Premium Eco and Business cabins are allowed 2 pieces of baggage in the hold. If you are travelling in the La Première cabin, the number of bags increases to 3. Visit the maximum weight of each item of luggage is 23 kg when travelling in the Eco and Premium Eco cabins. For those travelling in the Business and La Première cabins, each of their suitcases can weigh a maximum of 32 kg.

Purchase of an additional baggage option

The additional baggage option allows you to add baggage to the number you are allowed. This option can be purchased online or at the airport. Buying online allows you to benefit from a discount on the fare. It can be done :

• when you buy your ticket online,
• 30 h to 24 h before flight departure,
• when you register online.

Additional baggage purchased may weigh up to 23 kg. Its combined dimensions must not exceed 158 cm. The total of all baggage (free and purchased) must not exceed 10 per passenger. On certain aircraft, this number may be limited to 3.

Buying options for heavier and larger baggage

There is the heavier baggage option for suitcases that exceed the authorised weight. For suitcases larger than those accepted by the airline, there is the the larger baggage option. The price of these two options varies according to the route you need to take. In addition, payment is made when you drop off your baggage at the airport.

Baggage safety and labelling rules

There is a lot of baggage in the hold of an aircraft. Confusion or the risk of loss can happen very quickly. So you need to make your baggage more secure and label it for easy identification. To do this, you need to use suitcases that are adapted to your belongings. You must then lock with a TSA-approved lock or padlock (Transport Security Administration). They should also be personalised with a distinctive sign. This will make them easier to spot on the delivery conveyor belt. You should also remove all the old barcodes and labels from your suitcases from previous journeys.

This will enable you to stick on the new labels to check in your baggage. Labelling is a very important step, because without this sticker, the baggage is not recognised in the computer systems. It will therefore not be handed over to its presumed owner. You can also obtain the label from the interactive kiosks at the airport or online.
